Waiting.

Waiting.

Skyler and I joked before our wedding that we wanted kids “9 months to the day.” We always knew we wanted a family, and we wanted it as soon as we could have it. And now here we are, 3 years since we said “I do,” and our home is filled with so much love and laughter and four furry pets – and in a few months, we’ll welcome home our first child. Not to be dramatic, but that’s a statement I wasn’t sure we would ever say because the journey to this point has been a long and difficult one.

A Very Vegas Birthday

A Very Vegas Birthday

Anyone who knows me understands that I take birthdays very seriously. I’ve always celebrated the entirety of my birthday month, and in attempt to get my way when it comes to small, unimportant things, I’ve said to Skyler no less than a dozen times this month, “Come on, it’s my birthday month!” I fully acknowledge that I am over-the-top in how much I care about my own birthday.

But Skyler has risen to the occasion each and every year. Two years ago, he surprised me with a trip to Nashville to visit my best friend. Last year, he surprised me with a wine-filled weekend in the Finger Lakes. But this year, he bragged, would be my best. birthday. ever.

Our Wedding: The Details

Our Wedding: The Details

Before planning a wedding of your own, it’s so easy to overlook the small details that other brides (and grooms) have meticulously planned for their special day. Couples spend hours weighing decisions and striving to make their wedding day truly reflective of who they are as people, and often times, everyone is having too much fun at cocktail hour or on the dance floor to even notice some of the smaller details! But having gone through the process myself, I find myself noticing those details more and more, and I have to say, they’re my absolute favorite!

So, in case you missed them at our wedding, here are some of the details – and the stories behind them – from our wedding. Enjoy!

My 5 Favorite Cash-Back Apps

My 5 Favorite Cash-Back Apps

I consider myself a pretty frequent shopper. Just ask my husband – it’s by far his favorite thing about me. (Hehe.) I’m always browsing online for clothes, home goods or future holiday or birthday gifts. I’ll load up my virtual cart, and every once in a while, I’ll even “Submit Order.” Even when it comes to the day-to-day type of shopping, I genuinely enjoy going to the grocery store or a quick Target run for some cat litter and Sinex. But despite the thrills I get from shopping, it truly is rare that I pay full price or buy something without earning cash back, and that’s mostly the result of a few easy-to-use apps. I’ve rounded up my all-time favorite cash-back apps for you below! And trust me, I’m not trying to get all spam-my on you; I’m just genuinely stoked about the amount I’ve been able to earn back on things I’m already buying, so I wanted to share the wealth. (Literally.) And maybe, just maybe, if you’re earning money back on that must-have pair of shoes, you can justify some of your shopping habits. Happy shopping!

10 Essentials for Summer: Bedroom Edition.

10 Essentials for Summer: Bedroom Edition.

It’s so interesting how your spending habits can change the instant that your husband has full transparency of your finances upon the creation of a joint bank account. In the years before joint checking, I’d buy whatever my heart desired, whenever my heart desired it. Clothes, shoes, home décor, you name it. If it was on sale and cute, it was mine in approximately 3-5 business days. I was a bit reckless. Oops.

Now, things are different. I’ve done a little growing up, I’ve become infinitesimally more responsible, and I respect that I can’t be careless with our money like I could be with mine. But mostly, I feel like Skyler won’t consider a brand-new jewel-toned velvet sofa as crucial of a purchase as I do, and if he came home to that beautiful, soft, wonderful, perfect little sofa in our living room, he would not be as thrilled as I’d like him to be. So, as we have begun to navigate this aspect of married life together, we’ve been handling all non-essential purchases as joint decisions.

Enter: Skyler’s new set of golf clubs, and a set budget for me to spruce up the interior of our home in any (reasonable) way I’d like.

Dutch Baby Pancake

Dutch Baby Pancake

There are about a million and a half things that I love about having a day off. I love not having to wake up early or shower (yay, hygiene!) or put on makeup. I love drinking a cup of strong coffee curled up on the couch watching an episode of The Office. I love the feeling of productivity at home — laundry, dishes, vacuuming, dusting. And, my ultimate favorite thing about a day off? Cooking!

Last week, I took a day off of work to do all of those things, and I kicked off my spontaneous day of relaxation with a recipe from Chrissy Teigen’s Cravings.
